The Interview is a blog series presented by Starttells, where we aim to chat with FUTO graduands, who really made an impact, during their stay in school. In this first episode, we met with the former SUG president Onochie David Edozie, who made a name for winning the election as a Non Imo State indigene through his Aluta Change Campaign.
His initials is synonymous to a popular course in FUTO, known Ordinary Differential Equation.
Please grab a Popcorn, and read our conversation below, like you are watching The Wendy Williams Show.

Starttells: Good Mr. Onochie David, Please may we meet you?
Onochie David: Okay, I am Comr. Onochie David Edozie.  Also Known as O.D.E. I Just graduated from Polymer and Textile Engineering. (smiles).  By God’s grace, the former SUG President, FUTO.
Starttells: Wow! Being a former SUG President is indeed a plus to your profile, how do feel about giving the rare opportunity to serve your fellow students?

Onochie David: Am a selfless leader invariably it made me feel great!
I wish I could serve FUTOITES (FUTO Students) over and over again.
Starttells: It is an undisputed fact that you really effected a change in the SUG, and FUTO at large. E.g the SUG Resource Centre was completed during your tenure as the president. What propelled the Aluta Change Initiative?

Onochie David: A sincere desire to effect change!
I see our landmark achievements and successful projects as a result of undiluted urge for change and zero tolerance to mediocrity (especially the total rehabilitation of the FUTO back gate road with its extension along the hostel area) .
The high level of grace and spirituality that we witnessed during our administration was epic!
God really made a name for Himself through us during the Aluta Change regime.
We made a promise, and we fulfilled it!

Starttells: We all know that there is almost no government, without some form of scandals, blackmails, and sabotage trailing behind. How were you able to cope with those enormous challenges?

Onochie David: Am a leader and I’ve always been one.
Scandals, blackmail and. Sabotage trails have been the common tools mediocre minds use to frustrate good efforts of great leaders. We witnessed ours while in office but God always made a name for Himself. No matter the level of wailing and backbiting we witnessed that period.
God still made a name for Himself!

Starttells: FUTO just witnessed a successful SUG Election, where Akano Nnaemeka emerged as the winner. If there is one thing you’d wish to come back and change, what would that be? Maybe the incoming president can fix that.

Onochie David: There should be constant electricity in our hostels.

Starttells: The United States presidential election, is coming soon, and is a tough one for Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump. Based on your past experiences as an SUG Leader, what will you tell the aspirants, if you are in a position to advise them?

Onochie David: Hmmm….
I think I’ll skip this particular question.

Starttells: No Problem. John C. Maxwell, wrote in his book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, that “Leaders Who Attract Followers . . . Need to Be Needed,
Leaders Who Develop Leaders . . . Want to Be Succeeded”, please tell us about the O.D.E Leadership Initiative, and your plans on developing world leaders out of that initiative.

Onochie David: Wow! I love this particular question.

Honestly, O.D.E Leadership Initiative is my Brain child on developing and mentoring potential student leaders. It’s an avenue for total annihilation of mediocrity from the subconscious of our potential great leaders.
A platform for greatness in leadership…
I will give a detailed insight about this initiative when I publish my first book on Politics, Power and Leadership.

Starttells: That’s nice, please do keep us in the know, when the book is published. Lastly, can you please tell us about your final paper, the course title, what it is all about. Also do well to tell us the most remarkable experience you ever had in FUTO.

Onochie David: LOL. My final paper;
Course code- PTE506
Course title- Colouration and Finishing of Polymerics and Textiles. My remarkable experience in FUTO-
Landslide victory as a non-indigene SUG president and the 12 months of leading over 40,000 students . Whheeewww!!! It was indeed a remarkable experience.

Starttells: Thanks you very much Mr. Onochie David, for carving out time out of your busy schedule to have this interview session with us. We wish you all the best in life, as you step into a new phase.
Please do not forget to keep us in the know, when your book is finally published. May God bless you abundantly.
Goodnight.

Onochie David: Good night dear
